Travail Libre
Travail Libre is a body of artistic research and the title of an exhibition exploring the links between culture and the act of building. The research includes both a textual study of the founding writings of the Dessin-Chantier and Building Cultures research laboratories, and a sculptural and photographic exploration of the materiality of construction and the discourses that prefigure it. The photographs—taken with a Zenza Bronica 6x6—were collected on construction sites in the Abbaye district of Grenoble during the years 2019-2020. Their material and formal uniformity is superimposed by graphic representations inspired by technical documents and diagrams from political and economic philosophy. The sculptures are the materialization of research on the influences that drive construction and the relationship between drawing and the act of building.
