Power Houses

Power Houses is an architectural thesis project created in collaboration with Ayoub Msiyeh that explores various social and physical architectures that could contribute to the energy independence of a small French mountain village. This project combines a compost heat recovery system with wood burning heat and power generation to re-imagine a district heating model for a rural context. The project translates these energy sources into a palette of building materials and built forms which creates spaces for new relationships with the production of local and collectively owned energy. As its name suggests, Power Houses takes the form of a collection of small buildings, modeling both a modest and respectful renovation of existing buildings as well as how newly built infrastructure can integrate thoughtfully into the rural fabric and local vernacular.
